A Lightweight Retractable Solar Roof – Solving the Winter Energy Gap

Release Time:2020-12-16

In Nov 2020, dhp technology unveiled yet another “Horizon” folding roof in Davos, Switzerland. The 252 kWp system was complete with 700 Sunman lightweight eArc SMF modules and will produce 255,000 kWh of electricity per year.

The folding roof addresses a critical energy issue during cold seasons, known as the “Winter Energy Gap.” During periods of snowfall, conventional solar systems will be covered in snow and lose the ability to generate electricity. However with dhp’s meteo algorithm, the roof can retract during times of snow and reopen during sunshine. This removes the energy loss associated with installing a conventional PV system in snowy regions.

The Sunman team believe innovations such as the Horizon Roof are critical in driving the clean energy transition, as new innovations can address problems that conventional glass modules cannot solve.   Sunman welcomes partners that share a similar mission to open other new applications and markets for solar.
